Tuesday May 23rd at The British Library
19:30 – 21:00

On the eve of the Rathbones Folio Prize awards ceremony, join us for a dynamic evening of readings and talks featuring three of our shortlisted authors and the judges. The evening will be compered by author, broadcaster, and journalist Mark Lawson.

Ahdaf Soueif, chair of judges, will talk to Laura Cumming about her shortlisted book The Vanishing Man (Chatto & Windus), a work of nonfiction which fuses detection and biography to paint a passionate homage to the Spanish master Velasquez.

Lucy Hughes-Hallett (judge) will talk to Francis Spufford about his shortlisted novel Golden Hill (Faber), which follows a charming and suspicious young stranger through the streets of mid-eighteenth century New York.

Rachel Holmes (judge) will talk to Robin Yassin-Kassab about Burning Country; Syrians In Revolution & War (Pluto Press), an urgent nonfiction account of the reality of life in the midst of the political and humanitarian nightmare currently affecting Syria (co-authored by Leila Al-Shami).

There will be audience Q&As, and all shortlisted titles will be available to purchase.
