The Literature Prize Foundation – which runs The Writers’ Prize (formerly the Rathbones Folio Prize) – is a UK registered charity aiming to promote the reading and appreciation of literature for public benefit, and to engage readers and writers in cultural debate. We believe that literature has the capacity to fundamentally change and enrich people’s lives, whether you’re a reader, a writer, or both.
Each year we mount a Prize rewarding the best, most thrilling examples of literary work written in English from around the world. Uniquely, we coordinate an Academy of esteemed writers to nominate and judge those works, believing that practitioners of the art are best suited to the task.
We run talent development programmes such as the Mentorships and bring the best writing to the public audience by running events with a host of partners around the UK. We work in partnership with many other organisations to nurture the next generation of writers and to encourage creative expression.
The Literature Prize Foundation does not receive any government funding. Instead, we rely on the generosity of sponsors, donors, partners and supporters to carry out our work. A donation of any amount is always gratefully received.
